ASILLI | FIRST GROUND
As the first painting of the series, Asili: First Ground, functions exactly like a foundation piece should. The name "Asili" comes from the Swahili word meaning origin, source, essence, or nature. The tree is massive, rooted, almost primordial. It spreads across both panels like a living system of memory. The path cutting through the earth beneath the branches feels like the beginning of a journey. Visually and conceptually, it establishes the idea that everything grows from the ground beneath us. The deep blacks and burnt earth tones make it feel ancient, almost geological. It is less about a place and more about the idea of origin itself.

Each Panel 18 x 14 inches (35.56 × 45.72 cm)
Medium: Acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 2026
