“MALKIA” 2026
(Swahili for Queen.)
There’s something about this piece that feels powerful to me. I wanted her to feel like she came from another time, carrying the presence, strength, dignity, and history of the women who came before us. I intentionally gave her a weathered, aged surface because I wanted her to feel as though she had been there for centuries. And the gold represents something that time could never take away which is her value.
She feels ancient, which was the intention but somehow still present, as if she’s always been here.
“Malkia”
36 × 36 in | 91.4 × 91.4 cm
Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
